Best Friends ForeverMeilleurs Amis Pour La Vie© by Mary Baxter St.Clair "Anytime you want to find something good to eat for lunch, you only have to ask the nearest rabbit. They always know where all the goodies are hidden, and they will even help you to eat it ! After all, isn't that what best friends are for?" Fairies speak the languages of all the animals and not only play together but also help one another in times of need.

Fairy Kisses© by Mary Baxter St.Clair We were wandering through the fairy woods when we came upon this wee sprite playing hide and seek with her shadow. She paused to give us a mischievous wink and, just before disappearing with a pop, blew us a fairy's kiss. For a moment we could see nothing but a dazzling cloud of magical dream dust - (a common phenomenon with fairy kisses). This of course is to prevent people from seeing exactly where they went. Still there is no better luck you can have than to be sent a kiss from a fairy.

Song Of Enchantment Chanson d'Enchantmenta.k.a.: The Voice Coach © by Mary Baxter St.Clair This sprite is listening carefully to help a robin brush up on his courting technique. You were aware, weren't you, that the birds had learned their songs from the fairies? The Wee folk are experts in song of course, having learned their art in the long ago days from the Angels. We hope that you'll always keep a song in your heart.

Butterfly Dreams© by Mary Baxter St.Clair "For every young girl there is a magic moment when she becomes aware that she stands on the very edge of life and feels that anything can happen; she can fly to the moon, defy gravity, become anything."

Flight Of Fancy Vol Fantastique © by Mary Baxter St.Clair "Sometimes, when I was just a little girl and couldn't sleep at night, the fairies would come and visit me. They whisked me off to the magical Kingdoms of Fairie and the Islands of the Sapphire Sea where they showed me many wonderful things. The best of all was the gift of gossamer fairy wings, and a dragonfly to give me flying lessons. Oh, what fun we had gliding through the mists of evening high above all worldly cares. " This painting has special meaning for me and the dark of the evening is quite deliberate: It tells you that when things seem darkest, if you can still hold your head up and smile, you'll always be able to fly above it all. When I look at this shining, laughing face, I can't help but smile every time. So, smile and then smile some more - the world will have to smile back!

Fairy Gold L'Or Des Fées © by Mary Baxter St.Clair Fairies are known to live far longer than mortals, and it is only once in a hundred years a baby is born among them. Therefore, in fairyland, there is no treasure as precious as a child. There is an old myth that fairies sometimes steal human babies and leave in their place "changelings." Of course this is a very foolish thing to think because Fairies cherish all babies far too much to ever play such tricks, although they have been known to sneak into nurseries to tickle baby feet or whisper funny stories in their ears. This is why babies are sometimes heard kicking and giggling even when they appear to be all by themselves.

The Dream Duster© by Mary Baxter St.Clair We are sure you've noticed this; that there are those around whom the sun always seems to shine brighter and the stars sparkle with extra brilliance. They are always the first to spot rainbows and upon their shoulders lucky ladybugs gently land with mysterious frequency. Their hearts are pure and full of love and their spirits light with dreams, so that even in their 90th summer they will never be lacking a wish to cast into the evening sky at the sight of the first star. Sometime in their life these people have undoubtedly earned the high regard of fairies, and while they lay dreaming the Wee Folk blew their magic dust upon them. Have you done anything to earn the fairies blessing?

Garden of Dreams(Jardin des Rêves)© by Mary Baxter St.Clair "After a night of dancing in the moonlight, granting wishes, and weaving sweet dreams for children, the fairies find a quiet spot to rest and dream their own dreams of love." While this image was inspired by an old photograph of Mary's daughter, Lesa (the second of three daughters), reposing in a California garden, it eventually took on a likeness very different from the original model. "Sometimes," Mary says, "A painting will take on a life of it's own, as it did in this case. I'll always wonder to whom this lovely face belongs, that pushed it's way on to my canvas. The sense of serenity and happy introspection slows me down and says - rest with me a moment. Feel the wonder that surrounds you. Listen to the birds and wind in the trees, smell the flowers. The world is a lovely place! "

The Enchanted Meadow© by Mary Baxter St.Clair The Old Ones tell many tales of encounters with the wee folk. In certain places, and especially on Mid-summers day, one may happen on them unexpectedly. You may instantly lose track of them should you try and look at them directly, causing you to feel that your mind was only playing tricks on you. It is said that for the good and pure of heart, such encounters can bring naught but good fortune. The wee folk love those who know how to be kind and to laugh and are most pleased to see good deeds performed. However, fuss budgets, sourpusses and lay-abouts had better look out, they will be noticed too. Disagreeable people will find their keys misplaced, their tires flat and their faucets dripping at night. And, they'll get frown wrinkles! So, you'd better watch out, they might be watching even now!

Under The rainbow© by Mary Baxter St.Clair "On rainy days you may find her peeping up from under the flowers just where the rainbow ends. It's time to make a wish, for magic is underfoot!" One-year-old Rachel, 1st runner-up in Kauai's "Cutest Island Baby, 1996" contest, was just taking her first steps when the picture was taken for this painting. In fact, where she holds her flower umbrella she was actually grasping her mother's skirts for balance! As you can see, Miss Ladybug appears again here to watch over the baby. It is, after all, her specialty.

The Golden ButterflyLe Papillon Doré © by Mary Baxter St.Clair In the gardens of the Enchanted Island there grow flowers unlike any others. Each morning with the first rays of sunlight they are visited by a butterfly with wings of gold. As he dances joyfully over the dew-spangled buds he chooses only the most beautiful. With his touch the rosy petals unfurl to disclose the spirit of that flower, asleep in it's golden heart. As the little fairy awakens she looks up to thank the butterfly. They bow in recognition and a new day begins on the Enchanted Island.

The Wishing Pool© by Mary Baxter St.Clair Somewhere deep in the forest of out Enchanted Island there is a secret Wishing Pool. It's a mysterious and magical place that is hard to find because it shifts from place to place, never in the same spot twice. To find it you must be able to meet the requirements: a pure heart, a kind and gentle spirit (so you won't frighten away the fairies), a dream that is true and the courage to pursue it. Plus you must not fail to take with you those two most powerful companions indispensable for wishes to come true: they are of course "Faith" and "Hope".

In My Secret Garden© by Mary Baxter St.Clair "I have a secret place, where every creature is my friend; The perfect place for adventure. Be brave - try something new - have some fun today with your friends!" The creatures in this painting look on with friendly concern - sharing the joy, the challenge, the excitement of our little heroine - even the flowers dip their heads to watch. A child (and spider webs) are such fragile things.

Next Stop, The Castle of Dreams (The third and last of the Secret Garden Trilogy)a.k.a.: Flyaway © by Mary Baxter St.Clair Our happy ending for out adventuresome little fairy shows her flying gaily off into the sunraise and waving goodbye to her friends the mice, Mrs. Corrigan and Mrs. Gillespie, and the butterflies. Her wing is even better than before because now she can really fly, and can't wait to at last visit the Castle of Dreams that beckons to her beyond the sunrise. You can see the tree where the Fairy Doctor has her office. The mice are a bit sad to see her go but pleased she is recovered. We join them in wishing her a safe and happy journey and know we'll all see her again soon.

Good Morning, Miss Ladybug© by Mary Baxter St.Clair "Of course, everyone knows that shaking hands with a chimney sweep is good luck. In the land of fairies, when we want to feel extra lucky, we instead shake hands with a ladybug, thus ensuring gentle breezes and happy landings. Ladybugs are magical beings capable of changing from bugs to people and back again in the wink of an eye, which is why you may sometimes find yourself doing a double-take when one lands on your shoulder! " Although I heartily subscribe to the idea that we make most of our own luck, this painting carries the wish that all your good fortune will be doubled and that life will smile warm and sweet upon you.
